In the 19th century, German Romanticism actively promoted the connection of the German language and, in their opinion the original homeland of all people, India, or namely the German language and Sanskrit. Mihanović, obviously inspired by this trend, attempted to prove that the “Slavic language” also belongs to the same language family in an article he published in 1823 in a Viennese magazine. Of the two hundred words he compared, almost half of Mihanović’s correlations were made from well-established related lexemes, which is why today’s experts praise Mihanović’s text and emphasize that in terms of quality and approach to the topic, he completely overshadowed the works of some of his contemporaries who were educated language experts, unlike Mihanović.
