In the Second World War, young Tuđman quickly distinguished himself with courage and organizational skills, rapidly advancing in the National Liberation Movement. The war concluded with the rank of major, and for “exceptional bravery and dedication in battle,” he was decorated with the Order of the Partisan Star, Third Class, and the Partisan Commemorative Medal.
