CROATIAN ANTHEM
Even though there is no definitive evidence, it is commonly believed that the “Horvatska domovina (Croatian homeland)” was set to music by Josip Runjanin from Vinkovci, probably in 1848. The musical version shortened the poem to just four verses that, after minor adjustments and a change of title, became what we know today as the Croatian national anthem. The song has a long tradition of trying to become the national anthem. The first such attempt failed in 1907, and it became an official anthem only after a constitutional amendment in 1972.
