Augustinčić’s sculptures, due to their significant artistic value, were highly esteemed in all regimes and states where he lived. However, with each change of power, his sculptures were also toppled. After the fascist occupation of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, monuments to the Karađorđević dynasty kings were demolished. After World War II, the bust of the Ustasha leader Pavelić disappeared, and during the Homeland War, some monuments to the People’s Liberation Struggle and the victims of the Second World War were destroyed. Fortunately, a large number of his best works still stand today, far from the reach of ignorant Balkan art destroyers.
